The friendly and familiar figure in this image, dubbed the Carbon Anatase Dog, was captured by a scanning electron microscope by Babak Anasori and Michael Naguib, two PhD students in the Materials Science and Engineering Department in the College of Engineering. Naguib synthesized the material and Anasori colorized the image.
The image won the Roland B. Snow Award from the Ceramic Society for best ceramographic work and also won the first place in the scanning electron microscopy category.
