CEO, SPORTTRADE

Alexander Kane of Sporttrade is an alumnus honoree of Drexel Magazine's 40 Under 40 Class of 2026.

Alexander Kane is redefining sports betting with Sporttrade, the first legal U.S. platform to operate like a financial exchange.

Since the mass legalization of sports gambling in 2018, betting platforms have taken America by storm. But perhaps no one is positioned to make a splash in the industry quite like Alexander Kane. He is the founder of Sporttrade, a Philadelphia-based sports betting and trading company that has introduced the first legal sports betting exchange in United States history. Built like a financial exchange, the platform allows customers to trade on sports outcomes by buying and selling contracts similar to stocks. Right now, Kane is betting on soon having federal approval to operate Sporttrade as a regulated futures exchange and clearinghouse, a milestone that will launch the company to new levels of growth. It was Drexel, which Kane attended tuition-free through his mother’s employment at the University, which prepared him to become, in the best sense of the term, a disruptor.

Drexel is the first place where I experienced the exhilaration of ignoring norms, expectations and rules of what others thought was realistic or possible.”
Alexander Kane

Kane has always been fascinated by the intersection of numbers and sports. Prior to Sporttrade, he founded a golf consultancy group that used advanced analytics and interactive visualizations to help golfers assess performance. The University recognized him with a Drexel Young Alumni Entrepreneur Award in 2023. “I hope to be in a position to elevate others and give back in a way that drives and inspires the next generation of entrepreneurs, builders and tinkerers,” he says. Odds are, he’ll accomplish all his goals.

In his own words…

My Greatest Accomplishment:

Raising over $60 million of venture capital to build a team, product and disruptive consumer category in a highly regulated industry.

How Drexel Shaped My Path:

Drexel provided me with the foundation to start my entrepreneurial journey. I learned how to start a company, protect intellectual property and, critically, what to look for in hiring a team — while at the same time understanding the type of infrastructure and controls necessary to build a real company.

Where I Hope To Be in Five Years:

Elevating others, backing them and believing in their vision so they can show others what they’re truly capable of. DM
